Why ZEISS — and why an independent shop

ZEISS makes movie camera lenses, surgical microscopes, and the optics that print computer chips. Your glasses get that same care. Each lens surface is cut point by point for your exact prescription. And there’s a tiny laser-etched ZEISS logo on every authentic lens.

Our half is the fitting. We measure how the frame sits on your face — the tilt, the wrap, the distance from your eye. Those numbers go into ZEISS Individual designs. The math is done for your face, not a standard one.

The stack: tint over photochromic, mirror over both
Here’s the thing almost nobody tells you: the best builds are combos. We can layer a fixed tint with a photochromic. Your lenses hold a light fashion tint indoors. Step outside, and they turn into a fully dark pair of sunglasses. We can put a mirror over a tint over a photochromic. Or a flash coating on a tint over Transitions. Best of all, as the lens darkens, the mirror or flash pops with it — a quiet glint indoors, vivid color in full sun. A few shops in the country feel comfortable building these. None nearby — and few know these combos like we do. Building them tastefully is what we do.

Custom tints: solid, gradient, and double gradient

The ZEISS tint program has more than 50 colors in up to five darkness levels. Solids. Gradients. And true double gradients — dark on top, dark on the bottom, with a lighter band across the middle. One thing we’ve learned cutting these: a double gradient needs a taller lens to breathe. New colors include Copper Brown, Burgundy, Midnight Blue, and Dusk Gray. Want a color that isn’t on the list? Bring it in. We’ll find the closest ZEISS match and tell you up front how close we can get.

Flash coatings and full mirrors

Mirrors are the finishing move. DuraVision Mirror UV comes in nine full-strength colors: silver, gold, bronze, red, green, blue, strong blue, cool blue, and rose. That’s the full glacier-glasses look. DuraVision Flash UV is the quiet version. Five soft pearl colors: white, jade, amber, sapphire, and ruby. They read as a glint, not chrome, so people can still see your eyes. Flash works on clear or photochromic lenses too. Every mirrored pair gets an anti-glare coat on the back.

Polarized — including gradient polarized

Polarized lenses kill the glare that bounces off roads, water, and car hoods. A dark tint only dims that light. Polarized blocks it. ZEISS makes the classic grays and browns, plus real fashion colors. All of them take a mirror or flash. Then there’s the build most shops won’t touch: gradient polarized. Full glare control up top. Lighter at the bottom, so your dash and phone stay easy to read. We build it all the time. One thing to know: polarized lenses can make some LCD screens look odd. Gas pumps are the classic example. If you stare at screens all day, a tint or photochromic may be the better fit.

PhotoFusion X, Transitions, and the tint-versus-photochromic question

PhotoFusion X is the ZEISS photochromic — a lens that darkens in the sun and clears indoors and much faster than older versions. It comes in eight colors: Grey, Extra Grey, Pro Grey, Brown, Pro Brown, Pioneer (a gray-green), Blue, and Burgundy. It blocks UV whether dark or clear. Want Transitions instead? ZEISS lenses come with Transitions too. We carry both. Worth knowing: no photochromic gets very dark inside a car. The windshield blocks the UV light that triggers it. And remember — a tint is a color you pick. A photochromic is a color that happens. Sometimes the answer is one of each.

ZEISS PerformaSun: sun lenses tuned to your sport (new for 2026)

New for 2026. PerformaSun is nine prescription sun lenses, each tuned for one activity. Its SpectraEQ tech filters the light of that setting: blue glare off open water, the flat green-brown of a trail, gray pavement under a hard Texas sky. There’s Deep Water, Inshore, Trail, the Active Road pair, and Drive. There’s even a ball-sport lens with less polarization on purpose. Up to 99% polarization, UV400, and your prescription.

Driving glasses: ZEISS DriveSafe

If oncoming LED headlights brought you here, this is the fix. DriveSafe lenses are computed for night driving, not a bright exam room. The design accounts for how your pupils widen in the dark. The special coating cuts glare from LED and xenon headlights. The progressive version also grows the mid-range zone by up to 43% and the distance zone by up to 14%. Add a tint or polarization for a sunny drive pair.

ZEISS ClearMind: the new flagship (2026 US launch)

The newest design on our board. ZEISS proved something odd: blur doesn’t just bug your eyes. Your brain burns real effort filling in the gaps. ClearMind’s NeurOptix design puts the sharpest zones right where your eyes travel most. It comes in single vision, an anti-fatigue Digital version for screen days, and a progressive with wide, calm corridors. It takes PhotoFusion X, tints — the whole stack.

Custom rimless

Rimless is the enthusiast’s frame. Nothing sits between you and the optics. We build three-piece drill-mounted rimless with shapes cut to order. Bring a frame or lens with a shape you love — we scan it, size it, and cut it. We’re picky about lens material, because drill holes in the wrong lens will crack. And we polish every edge, because on rimless the edge is the finish.
